Research Description

  • My research focuses on the perception and production of Spanish speech sounds by bilingual speakers of Spanish and English. Using psycholinguistic methods, I am particularly interested in how Spanish heritage speakers process Spanish (usually the L1) and English (usually the L2) speech sounds and whether phonetic interference occurs between the two languages. Moreover, I seek to understand whether Spanish heritage speakers’ perception and production of Spanish speech sounds differ from those of Spanish native speakers and English L2 learners of Spanish and, if so, in which aspects of the phonological system and to what extent.
